Gabby Giffords set as special guest at CD2 fundraiser

Former Arizona Congresswoman Gabby Giffords is headlining the 16th Annual CD2 DFL Classic  being held  Sunday, September 17, at The Wilds in Prior Lake. Tickets are now on sale.

She represented Arizona’s 8th congressional district from January 3, 2007, until her resignation on January 25, 2012, after surviving an assassination attempt that left her with a severe brain injury. She is the third woman in Arizona’s history to be elected to the U.S. Congress.

In January 2013, Giffords and her husband Mark Kelly started a political action committee called Americans for Responsible Solutions. The mission of the organization is to promote gun control legislation with elected officials and the general public. The couple supports “keeping guns out of the hands of dangerous people like criminals, terrorists, and the mentally ill”.[115]

Other proposals from Giffords and Kelly include limiting the sale of high-capacity magazines, limiting the sale of assault weapons, and stopping gun trafficking.

Giffords married U.S. Navy Captain and NASA astronaut Mark E. Kelly on November 10, 2007. A joint memoir by Giffords and Kelly, Gabby: A Story of Courage and Hope, with co-author Jeffrey Zaslow, was published in late 2011.
